GHMC to take Rs 600 cr loan for JNNURM Hyderabad, Aug 30 (INN): The Standing Committee of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Monday gave the nod for the Corporation to try and obtain a loan for Rs 600 crore in lieu of the amount being spent as the ULB share under the JNNURM Scheme. The Standing Committee, which met at the GHMC Office Complex authorised Commissioner Sameer Sharma to obtain the loan on behalf of the Corporation from the financial institutes willing to lend the money.
The Standing Committee categorically told Dr Sharma that his proposal to increase property taxes has been rejected. The Committee also requested him to look for ways to increase the revenue of the GHMC.
Another major decision taken at Mondays Standing Committee meeting was to provide road accidental policy (Group Nagarik Suraksha Accidental Insurance Policy) to the GHMC outsourcing health and sanitation workers through an insurance firm. More than 20,000 workers will be affected by this decision
The Standing Committee members directed the officials to submit details about the insurance policy at the next meeting.
The Panel further asked GHMC officials to submit a draft proposal for the construction of a Foot-over-Bridge at Towlichowki at the next meeting. Mayor Banda Kartika Reddy briefed media persons over the decisions after the Standing Committee meeting.
