Police relax after peaceful Friday prayers
Hyderabad, Sept 17 (INN): Higher police officials, under tremendous pressure to maintain law and order in the backdrop of some political parties bent on taking out processions to celebrate Telangana Liberation Day despite being denied permission, heaved a sigh of relief as Friday prayers passed off peacefully in the city. The tension among the higher officials, especially Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan, was evident from the fact that the city top cop conducted a review meeting on the security arrangements at 2:00 AM at the old city Commissioners office in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday.
Chief Minister K Rosaiah had on Thursday told the police in clear words that the government would not allow any disruption of communal harmony in the light of the Telangana Liberation Day, the Ganesh Visarjan and the Allahabad High Courts expected judgement on the title suit of the Babri Masjid. Meanwhile, the general public is wary of the security situation in the state and see Friday peacefully passing by as the first hurdle being crossed in a long and thorny path.
Police officials meanwhile are savouring the peace since they know that tough times lie ahead even after the Ganesh Visarjan and the Allahabad Court Judgement as the Srikrishna Commissions Report on future of the state could really test the security apparatus.
