T-Lawyers protest hits petty vendors Hyderabad, Sept 17 (INN): The ongoing agitations by Telangana lawyers at the High Court have taken an unlikely toll with small businesses suffering losses. The protests by the lawyers who are demanded 42 per cent quota in Judiciary posts for Telanganaites, have hit the petty vendors who have set up shop on the main road from Madina Building to the City College, with police diverting traffic almost on a daily basis since the turmoil began.
Ganesh, a pushcart Chat seller says the last five days have been terrible from a business point of view. He says that even regular customers who used to drop by and relish the eatables he serves, are now wary of venturing on the road. Ganesh said, my daily earnings have dropped drastically since the protests began. I was caught unawares of the protest on Tuesday and that day, my entire stock of chat, samosa and pani puri was wasted since there were no buyers. Many other petty vendors echo Ganeshs words, and rue the day the protests began.
Not only the general public, but also the lawyers enjoy a quick snack from the many shops or push carts that have sprung up on the road over the past many years. Even shop owners who do not sell edibles are feeling the pinch because of the protests. A plastic ware seller said that the police and media vehicles which are parked on the road are obstructing any possible customers view of the shops.
