Security net over city: AK Khan Hyderabad, Sept 19 (INN): Warning that stringent action would be initiated against anti-social elements, City Police Commissioner A K Khan on Sunday stated that 25,000 police have been deployed to maintain law and order in the city in the wake of the Ganesh Immersion procession set to be taken on September 22. Talking to media persons after reviewing the security arrangements for Ganesh procession with his staff at Jaya Gardens, Somajiguda, Mr Khan said the police have been directed to act tough against anti-social elements during the immersion processions.
The Commissioner said 40 officers of the rank of SP have been deployed to supervise bandobust. He said the CCTVs would be installed at vital points to review the situation on hourly basis and to initiate against troublemakers if any. The Police Chief said that women police have been deployed at important points to help the people and 6000 home guards deployed in maintenance of law and order. He said 272 hyper-sensitive and 543 sensitive centres have been identified and 475 mobile parties are moving in the areas for smooth conduct of Ganesh immersion.
Mr Khan said four Rapid Action Force teams have deployed to prevent untoward incidents, particularly in the old city. Bind-over cases have been lodged against 800 rowdy-sheeters, he said. The Police Commissioner said the officials have prepared a route map for Ganesh procession and it would be released soon to religious heads. He said the officials have been asked not to avail leave till Sept 28. In the wake of Allahabad High Court set to deliver its verdict on title deeds of Babri Masjid on Sept 24, the department has decided to continue Section 144 until September 28.
Mr Khan said processions and rallies would not be allowed without prior permission. The police chief said that Goshamahal, Asifnagar, Malakpet, Bholakpur and Musheerabad have been declared as hyper-sensitive as they witnessed communal riots in last April and senior police officers have been posted to deal with the situation. Reacting on the firing on two foreigners near Jama Masjid in New Delhi, he said high alert has been sounded in the city and asked people to help police in the maintenance of peace and harmony. The police chief also said that police would conduct searches of vehicles and body frisking. He asked the citizens to extend their cooperation.
