SCR, Metro Rail meet to remove impediments Hyderabad, Sept 23 (INN): South Central Railway General Manager MS Jayanth, along with senior officers of the SCR held a meeting with Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director NVS Reddy and other representatives from Larsen & Toubro Limited at Rail Nilayam on Thursday. Larsen & Toubro Limited will be executing the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project. The meeting was held to discuss the issues of feasibility of Metro Rail crossing points over railway lines and stations at various places. The Metro Rail had earlier given the crossing points of the Metro Corridors over the existing railway lines.
The First Metro Corridor, Miyapur - Nampalli - LB Nagar (28.87 Km with 27 stations) has three crossing locations at Bharatnagar, Lakdi-ka-Pul and Malakpet, which were all found feasible by SCR. The Second Metro Corridor, Jubilee Bus Station RTC X Road Falaknuma (14.78 Km with 16 stations) has one crossing at Secunderabad station. Due to world class station coming up, the present plan of crossing is not feasible.
SCR suggested four alternatives by which the crossing of the Metro Corridor over the station can be achieved. Out of these, two alternative were underground crossings. The Managing Director, HMRL indicated that there would be no underground crossings in case of Hyderabad Metro Rail Project. However, the organization would consider the feasibility of alternative overhead crossings proposed by SCR.
The Third Corridor, Nagole Ameerpet Shilparamam (27.51 Km with 23 stations) has four crossings, Alugaddabavi Bridge (Mettuguda), Chilkalguda Bridge, Oliphanta Bridge and Begumpet. All these were found feasible by SCR with enhanced span and vertical clearance in some cases.
Mr Jayanth stated that SCR is committed to the development of the twin cities into world class cities and will be extending all cooperation to Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited to ensure that the project is completed in time. Both South Central Railway and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited have a very vital role to play for ensuring world class transport system in the city.
NVS Reddy appreciated the time devoted by SCR officers in conducting an in-depth study and suggesting alternatives for the Metro Rail Corridors crossing the railway lines. He also made a presentation to the General Manager, SCR, detailing the salient features of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project.
