TANA Donates 150 Backpacks in Michigan
Detroit: Telugu Association of North America (www.tana.org) donated 150 back packs to children at two public elementary schools in Battle Creek, Michigan as a part of TANAs community service project, Mohan Nannapaneni, Secretary of TANA infomed in a Press release.
TANA has donated thousands of backpacks to various schools throughout the country. The Backpack program is pioneered by Dr. Navaneetha Krishna Gorrepati in 2003. Ever since the inception of this project, TANA has been successfully donating backpacks to the needy children across the USA, every year.
A 17 year old, Lakeview high school student Nithin Edara is inspired by this program in Michigan, which is headed by Dr. Lokesh Edara, the Chairman of TANA Foundation. Nithin contacted the officials of Battle Creek school district, identified couple of schools, raised funds to purchase the backpacks.
100 Backpacks were donated to the children at Franklin Elementary school and 50 were donated to the children at Coburn Elementary school. The staff and the students of both schools greatly appreciated the back packs and the generosity of Telugu Association of North America.
Founded in 1977 TANA is one of the oldest and largest Indo-American national-level nonprofit organizations, boasting over 32,000 members across The USA and Canada. Consistent with its charter, the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) is an organization formed to perpetuate, integrate, and assimilate the cultural heritage of the Telugu-speaking people of the North American continent into the mainstream of the cultural heritage of North America.
