Lift rioting cases against old city students: BJP Hyderabad, Sept 28 (INN): Bharatiya Janata Party city president B Venkat Reddy on Tuesday urged Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy to lift up cases imposed on innocent students from old city in the aftermath of communal riots which struck the city in April this year. Talking to media persons after submitting a memorandum to this effect, Mr Venkat Reddy pointed out that they has already given a memorandum to the Home Minister on May 4, 2010 which mentioned 10 suggestions for the permanent prevention of communal violence in the old city.
He regretted that thus far, there has been no response from the government. He added that instead of taking note of the suggestions, innocent students were being subjected to harassment for the violence in which three persons lost their lives and scores were left injured. Mr Venkat Reddy added that those old city students against whom cases were registered during the festivals of Mahankali Jathara and Vinayaka Chavithi were summoned by policemen at inconvenient timings. He added that the police was harassing the students in different ways.
The BJP city chief also stated that if tight security was provided by police at sensitive places in the old city, then communal riots would be prevented. He demanded that the police lift cases registered against the students and those who were responsible for the riots should be punished.
