GHMC pleas for help in providing shelters for destitutes Hyderabad, Oct 6 (INN): The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Wednesday appealed to the general public and philanthropists to help in cash or kind in its bid to set up night shelters for the destitute and homeless. The GHMC has already formulated an action plan for establishing night shelters for these shelterless people. The identification of shelter less people has already started and efforts are underway to operationalise the night shelters.
GHMC Additional Commissioner GD Priya Darshini said that the plight of the destitute and shelter less people is deplorable and undignified. These homeless and socially neglected people are subjected to violence and abuse. They are also prone to chronic diseases, health conditions, psychiatric disorders, criminalization, drug addiction, exploitation, malnutrition and irregular food habits.
At this juncture, Ms Priya Darshini said that the GHMC invites the participation and generous support from the public philanthropic organizations, NGOs, hospitals, corporate companies etc to bringing cheer and joy into the lives of these distressed and neglected section of society.
She said that the GHMC requests all the concerned to extend their co-operation in providing facilities in the night shelters (beds, bed-sheets, pillows, blankets, carpets, buckets, plates, glasses, kitchen-ware / utensils, T.Vs, indoor games, provisions, food arrangements to the homeless) GHMC welcomes contribution from all in cash or kind or active participation or assistance.
