DTC Celebrated Bathukamma in Michigan Detroit, MI, USA: It was home away from home as hundreds of Telanganites in Detroit as Detroit Telangana Community (DTC) organized one of the largest Bathukamma celebrations in the history of US. It was a night filled with festive gaiety, religious fervor at the Farmington hills YMCA here on Saturday.
The event was organized by Detroit Telangana Community (DTC), which translated its months of planning and hard work into making the show a tremendous success which was evident by the huge attendance never seen before.
The festivities were kicked for the day with the inaugural speech of Anitha Bommanaveni. It was a great visual treat to see women folk, young and old clad in colorful traditional attires singing and dancing around the beautifully decorated Bathukammas. The Bathukamma songs reverberated for over an hour and that was only part of the fun for the night.
The most beautifully decorated Bathukammas received prizes. The chief guest Nandi Award winner Dr. Ande Sri has given away the trophies for the best Bathukammas. The first prize was bagged by Bindu Jyothi and team for a humongous Bathukamma, followed by Anitha Bommanaveni, Swarajya Laxmi grabbing the second and third prizes, for their beautiful floral decorations.
Later the grand gala cultural show was kicked off with Ande Sri's flag ship song Jaya Jaya he Telangana. His songs depicting the beauty of the lost rustic life have made the audience nostalgic. There were a series of cultural programs by boys and girls interlaced with the performance of the Ande Sri which made the audience spell bound. The anchors for the day, Shobha Toomukuntla, Bharathi Aitha, Jyothi Maroju and Anitha Bommanaveni have co-ordinated and presented an impressive cultural show consisting of a variety of programs which reflected the rich cultural heritage of Telangana.
The committee members of Detroit Telangana Community have felicitated Ande Sri with a memento for his contributions to the cause of Telangana. As all good things have to come to an end, so did the action filled night by recognizing the committee members who have put in time, money and effort in making the event a great success.
