TANA building 300 homes for Kurnool Flood victims
San Jose, USA: TANA had solicited donations in October of 2009 from its members and supporters to aid with the immediate and long term relief of the floods that had devastated some villages of Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts of Andhra Pradesh. We have got a overwhelming response from generous donors, all over USA and Canada resulting donations little over $100,000 dollars.
As an immediate response, with in the first week of floods, we have sent over $10,000 worth of food, blankets and medicines to the flood affected villages in Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar districts. Some Government departments and NGO organizations assisted TANA in delivering these goods directly to the flood affected people.
TANA continued its efforts to help and assist those people on a permanent basis. TANA proactively approached Andhra Pradesh state government and made an agreement with the Collector of Kurnool district to partner with and contribute towards construction of 300 houses in a relocation colony in Kurnool Mandal. Per this agreement, TANA is contributing about $90,000 to complete the construction and finishing of those houses. The government has agreed to name colony as TANA Nagar or TANA Colony. In the past, TANA has successfully completed a similar project, called TANA Nagar to aid 2004 Tsunami victims in Prakasam district.
This new project is at near completion stage and TANA is planning for a grand opening ceremony in December 2010.
On behalf of TANA, the President Mr. Jayaram Komati, thanks to all those generous donors, Andhra Pradesh government, and the collector of Kurnool district. Mr. Jayaram Komati says; TANA and its members should take immense pride in responding to help people affected by the flood in our motherland - and generously contributing to reconstruct and restructure their lives
TANA has been pioneered as the most prominent Telugu organization, that not only promotes Telugu language and culture, but also serving both mother land and local communities in the North America with various community service projects.
