ASI starts building ramp at Charminar Hyderabad, Oct 22 (INN): The Archaeological Survey of India seems to have finally woken up to the fact people with physical handicaps have as much right to visit historical monuments as the rest of the citizens. This was evident from the fact that officials of the department on Friday started work on a ramp leading up the stairs of the historic Charminar for physically challenged and infirm visitors. The Archeology officials also arranged two wheelchairs at the tourist centre.
ASI official in-charge of Charminar Kutumba Rao told media persons that the decision to build the ramp and provide wheelchairs came after the officials noticed the discomfiture of people with physical limitations finding it difficult to enjoying their trip to the architectural marvel. Mr Kutumba Rao added that after the ramp is built, the tourists will be able to admire the intricate patterns inside the monument which were hitherto difficult for them.
