PRP Mahila leader's call to fight liquor mafia Hyderabad, Oct 24 (INN): Mahila Rajyam Greater Hyderabad president Shahida Begum on Sunday exhorted women to join hands and fight flow of liquor in the state. Speaking at a round table conference at Baghlingampally, Ms Shahida Begum called on women to come together and fight the liquor mafia which is destroying lakhs of households across the state. The PRP leader also demanded that the state government immediately take steps to provide relief to the people who have been caught in the clutches of Micro Financial Institutions.
She said that the poor people are suffering at the hands of the collection agents of MFIs who harass them to collect an absurdly high rate of interest on their loans. They do not even give any grace period to the loanees, she said. Shahida Begum added that crimes against women like dowry harassments, murders, physical violence and harassment, rapes are on the rise in the state and stated that the prevalence of liquor is partly responsible for this. She called on women to unite and added that they could force the government to act.
