Mayor vows to get Parks rid of cigarettes Hyderabad, Oct 27 (INN): Hyderabad Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy on Wednesday vowed to make 13 City level Major parks plastic and Cigarette free from November 14, 2010. Ms Karthika Reddy revealed that there are 575 parks in GHMC jurisdiction and ban on the usage of plastic and cigarettes will be implemented in all the parks by January 1, 2011.
The Mayor was speaking during her visit to the Chacha Nehru Park, Masab Tank and Vengal Rao Park, Banjara Hills, on Wednesday, where she said that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had allotted Rs 1.6 crore for urban forestry this year.
The Mayor interacted with senior citizens in both the parks. The Senior citizens requested the Mayor to strengthen the security in the parks for which Mayor has assured them that action will be initiated soon in all the GHMC Parks.
She instructed the officers concern to replace the play apparatus of children in Chacha Nehru Park. At the Vengal rao Park, senior citizens brought issue of drainage water in the pond, to her notice. The Mayor informed them that Nala work has been started with Rs 21 Crore and worked will be completed in one year.
