Diwali turns dark as 3 suffer eye injuries Hyderabad, Nov 6 (INN): The Festival of Lights, Diwali has turned dark for three persons who suffered eye injuries when firecrackers burst unexpectedly. J Shivakumar (26), a Gajwel (Medak district) resident, was being treated at the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital after a flower pot burst. The impact left his right eye injured. Doctors who operated on him say that the chances that his eye could be perfect again are remote. At best, he will have limited vision, they say.
The eagerness of ten-year-old Srikanth to burst crackers also cost him heavily on Friday night. Srikanth had come home at Hyder Nagar in Miyapur from his hostel for Diwali. So excited was he that he rushed out from the house even while his family was having dinner, to light the crackers. He threw a lit cracker on the wall, it ricocheted, and the shards struck his right eye. Srikanth was operated upon at the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital where doctors state that he may be normal with proper treatment.
Meanwhile, first year Intermediate student Mohammed Mohsin was the unluckiest of the lot. He was nearing his residence on a motorcycle when a firecracker burst close to him. Mohsin had failed to notice the cracker. The explosion left his eye seriously injured. He fell to the ground and was rushed to the Eye Hospital. He is presently recuperating from the surgery. Doctors say that it is still too early to really say the extent of damage to Mohsins eye.
