Kartika Masam: Jal puts Shiva devotees in dilemma Hyderabad, Nov 7 (INN): With the super cyclone `Jal laid centered 250 km east-southeast of Chennai and 280 km of south-southeast of Nellore, members of the Hindu community are caught in a dilemma whether to observe Kartika Masam, which is set to begin on November 8. As per the Hindu traditional calendar, November is favorite month of Lord Shiva and Vishnu. The Kartika Somavara Vratam is an auspicious Vratam dedicated to Lord Shiva. With the super cyclone expected to hit land between Chennai and Nellore, the Shiva devotees are in perplex. For observing the Vratam, the devotees have to take dip in river or sea.
With the rough weather in sea not allowing the devotees to take dip and police and district authorities imposing restrictions, the devotees are confused and contacting their respective temple pundits. The Shiva temples authorities said 'Once the super cyclone crosses the Bay of Bengal, the severity of Jal will subside and allow the devotees to observe Kartika Masam.'
