Commissioner's absence irked GHMC SC members Hyderabad, June 21 (INN): The war of one-upmanship between the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Standing Committee members and the Commissioner reignited again on Wednesday with the members baying for Dr Sameer Sarmas blood. The Commissioner, after getting clearance from the Ministry of Municipal Administration that it was not incumbent for him to attend the Standing Committee meetings, has chosen to stay away from these. Dr Sharmas absence has not been taken well by the Standing Committee members who had, like earlier instances, targeted him for allegedly disregarding them.
The Standing Committee members on Wednesday, vexed after not getting satisfying replies from the Additional Commissioners on the progress of works on the resolutions adopted at the meetings, demanded that Dr Sameer file a report on the follow up action on the earlier resolutions. The members had earlier sought the Action Taken Reports from the Additional Commissioners, who promptly stated that Dr Sharma was responsible for such reports.
Apart from the attempt to corner Dr Sharma, the Standing Committee members passed a resolution to strictly implement the ban on plastic bags in 14 major parks within the Corporation limits from November 14 and then enforce the ban in all parks from January 1, 2011. The members also gave the nod to the proposal for construction of an RCC culvert on the Major Nala connecting Mohammednagar and Akbarnagar in Eidi Bazaar Ward, Division III at the cost of over Rs 45 lakh. The General Budget for the next year was also submitted at the fag-end of the meeting.
