Missing Naga canoeists body retrieved Hyderabad, Nov 12 (INN): The police on Friday fished out the body of Ranjan, an athlete from Nagaland who was undergoing training for canoeing, from the Hussain Sagar Lake. Ranjan had ventured into the Hussain Sagar for practice without a life jacket and drowned on Thursday. The 17-year-old Ranjan joined as trainee canoeist of Water Sports Training Club of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh six-months ago. He had paddled into the lake with 10 other canoeists on Thursday morning. While other trainees paddled through the water, Ranjan who was in a C-1 canoe moved towards Sanjeevaiah Park side.
A labourer, Prakash, working at a drainage pipeline saw him drowning from a distance and raised an alert others. By the time the help reached the spot, the canoe was found floating and Ranjan missing. Police soon organized a team of divers from Lake Police outpost who tried in vain to find Ranjan. The military was also called in to help but these attempts went in vain. As darkness set in, the searches were called off and they resumed on Friday.
