Surplus budget for GHMC announced Hyderabad, Nov 15 (INN): Hyderabad Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy on Monday announced a budget of a total outlay of Rs 2637.77 crore for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation for 2010-2011, an increase of 22.3 per cent. Speaking to media persons on the first day of the GHMC budget session, Ms Karthika Reddy stated that the Corporation expects a total revenue of Rs 1631.62 crore and the planned expenditure has been put at Rs 1239.46 crore, giving it a surplus amount of Rs 392.16 crore. The Mayor revealed that the GHMC has allotted Rs 171.40 crore for poverty alleviation, Rs 63.53 crore for development of SCs, Rs 24.31 crore for development of STs, Rs 19.61 crore for development of Women and Rs 11.77 crore for the physically challenged.
The Corporation will also approach the government for seeking a share in the VAT and look to increase its revenue by bringing more trades into the for trade licenses ambit like hostels, coffee shop private swimming pools etc. The Mayor revealed that the Corporation will also undertake the renovation of Hari Hara Kala Bhavan. She revealed that the GHMC has also proposed a resolution for enhancement of fee for film/TV shooting.
Another crucial decision taken at the Budget Session was to develop ring drains around lakes by collecting charges from polluters. The garbage collection fee from commercial establishments will also increased, she revealed. Ms Karthika Reddy revealed that a preamble has been proposed for a library in each division. To cut down misuse of electricity by hoardings, all hoarding owners will have to submit their meter numbers. An awareness campaign will also be undertaken to educate public about use of sub-ways and the GHMC will also make special presentations on FOBs and court cases. The Mayor revealed that special care will be taken to ensure that the budget allocated for women, PHs SCs and STs will be utilized properly.
