Old couple found murdered, gold missing Khammam, Nov 30 (INN): An aged couple were found dead under suspicious circumstances at their residence under Khammam Two Town police station limits on Tuesday. According to Inspector Naresh Kumar, retired RTC employee Kola Venugopal (70) and his wife Kola Padmavati (68), were residents of Burhanpuram village in Khammam district. The murders were discovered when milkman Apparao knocked on the door at around 1 PM in the afternoon. Receiving no response after his repeated knockings, Apparao peered inside the window to witness the couple lifeless. He immediately informed the police who arrived on the scene. It was revealed that the couple's son had left for work early on Tuesday morning and locked the door behind him.
The police suspect that the killers smothered the couple with pillows. Initial inquiry revealed that the gold ornaments in the house were missing. Police suspect that the killers might have targeted the couple to rob the gold. The police however are not ruling out the possibility that the gold was missing as an attempt to mislead the investigators. District Superintendent of Police Pratap Reddy visited the crime scene. The bodies have been shifted to hospital for autopsies. A case under section 302 and 380 IPC has been registered and further investigations are on.
