164 city govt schools to get free water supply Hyderabad, Dec 1 (INN): The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board has announced that it would supply drinking water to 164 government schools free of charge. According to HMWSSB Managing Director M Jagadeeshwar, the decision to extend the facility to the government schools on the representation of Hyderabad district Collector Natarajan Gulzar. Mr Gulzar had called on Mr Jagadeeshwar at his chambers at Khairatabad Board Office on Wednesday. The district Collector identified these schools as having no water supply connections and submitted the list to the Managing Director with a request to provide free drinking water supply connections.
Mr Jagadeeshwar said that the main intention of giving water supply connections along with fixing meters and laying pipelines freely is to provide safe drinking water to children studying in GOVERNMENT schools. He also affirmed to provide sewerage connections to those schools which do not have them. The HMWSSB Managing Director asked the District Collector to provide sumps with a float to collect drinking water to arrest overflow. The Hyderabad Collector had agreed to depute a responsible officer to the Board for coordination, surveying, road cutting permissions etc. Mr Jagadeeshwar also instructed Director (Operations) CV Rama Baba to coordinate and ensure that the work gets completed on or before December 31, 2010.
