Arrangements in place for Muharram Hyderabad, Dec 8 (INN): The state government has made elaborate security arrangements for the Bibi- Ka- Alam procession, which is scheduled for December 17 even as Muharram, the first month in the Islamic Calendar began on Wednesday all over India. Speaking to media persons at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Minister for Wakf and Minority Welfare Syed Ahmedullah said that all arrangements were being made for providing amenities to the local as well as those coming from other districts to take part the Bibi- Ki- Alam procession throughout the route.
Clarifying a point on the installation of 'Alam', the Minister appealed for installing the 'Alam' at Bhadshahi Ashoorkhana in old city, which will be repaired immediately for the programme. He said he would ask Chief Minister N Kirna Kumar Reddy for a permanent building for a Musafirkhana. Mr Ahmedullah also asked the organisers to locate a suitable place for construction of a Musafirkhana for accommodating those coming from abroad also. Asked about other issues, the Minister said that he would discuss them in the next meeting, which he would arrange shortly.
Regarding a tour to be undertaken to Karbala, the organisers demanded that subsidy be paid to the pilgrims, Mr Ahmedullah said that he would look into the matter as the Court had imposed certain restrictions. Meanwhile, the Nehru Zoological Park Curator has informed that the elephant 'Rajani' is being trained for the occasion and on December 11, it would be taken out for a trial run to acclimatise it to the situation. This was being done as the elephant was confined to the zoo for the entire year. Besides, efforts were being made to prevent drums etc near the elephant while the procession is in progress. A veterinary doctor will be in attendance for the elephant.
Officials concerned were asked to select a good Mahavat (driver of the elephant) as last time the Mahavat assigned to the task was drunk, said a member of the Wakf Board. Uninterrupted power supply, water supply through water tankers and water sachets would be provided all along the route of the procession for convenience of the participants.
As part of the arrangements, the connected roads will be black topped for smooth progress of the procession and from December 14, traffic diversions will be effected to avoid inconvenience to the road users. As many as 11,000 Ashoorkhanas are to be spruced up for the convenience of those coming from afar. Hyderabad district Collector Natarajan Gulraz, Principal Secretary Lingaraj Phanigrahi, MIM legislators Ahmed Pasha Quadri, Afsar Khan, MLCs Altaf Hyder Razvi and Amin Ul Zafri attended the meeting.
