Cong cries foul over TDP's personal attacks on Mayor Hyderabad, Dec 9 (INN): Drawing the battle-lines against the Telugu Desam Party, Congress Corporators on Thursday lent their complete and unstinted support to Hyderabad Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy by assuring that she would complete her term. The Congress Corporators, who met in the Chambers of the party Floor Leader Kaleru Venkatesh, discussed the increasing attack on the integrity of the Mayor and condemned the repeated attempts to target her functioning by TDP and BJP Corporators.
Talking to INN, Mr Venkatesh said that the TDP and other opposition parties had unleashed a wave of personal attacks on the Mayor, alleging that she was corrupt and her husband Chandra Reddy was the power behind the scenes. Mr Venkatesh said that these attacks are baseless and are a deliberate attempt to mislead the public. He said that the Mayor is working diligently to tackle the civic problems faced by the citizens.
Asserting that the charges of corruption on Ms Karthika Reddy were unsubstantiated, Mr Venkatesh told the TDP to back their words with proof. He said that making charges is easy, but proof is hard to come by when there is no corruption. The Congress Floor Leader also dared the TDP to provide proof of the work they had carried out in the GHMC during the time when Teegala Krishna Reddy was the Mayor. He added that if the schemes launched and completed during the reigns of the two Mayors are compared, the findings will be disappointing for the TDP.
Mr Venkatesh also said that the 55 Corporators and 60 ex-officio members of the Congress give it enough power to do anything they please, but they are bound by the Constitution and the desire to work for the welfare of the people. In a sarcastic pointer, the Congress Floor Leader said that though the TDP boycotted the GHMC Sports Meet, its Corporators did not shy away from taking the sports kits.
