BJP leaders tow car to protest against fuel price hike Hyderabad, Dec 15 (INN): Protesting against the increase in petrol price by almost Rs 3 per litre, Bharatiya Janata Party activists on Wednesday staged a unique dharna at Narayanaguda Crossroads, with senior party leaders towing a car with a rope. Senior BJP leaders Bandaru Dattatreya and B Lakshman attempted to tow a car with a rope, shouting slogans intermittently when they paused to catch their breath. Wiping the sweat off his forehead in the month of December, Mr Dattatreya alleged that the United Progressive Alliance government totally failed on all accounts. He said that the government had hiked the petrol prices six times so far and increased the burden on common man.
The BJP activists who were close behind the car being towed also shouted slogans, as if to encourage the party leaders. They then took an effigy depicting the UPA government in a procession and burnt it at Narayanaguda Crossroads. With the hike in petrol prices, the prices of essential commodities and other goods will further increase and put an additional burden on poor and backward class people, who are already reeling under spiraling prices, Mr Lakshman stated. The three state-run oil firms ' Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum increased the petrol prices by up to Rs 3 per litre from Tuesday night as part of recovery of losses.
