ECI calls to improve EPIC rate Hyderabad, Dec 18 (INN): The Election Commission of India on Saturday called on all Electoral Registration Offiers and to concentrate on getting the youth registered for voting and improve EPIC performance. Speaking after holding a review meeting with Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers on special summary revision of electoral rolls in respect of the fifteen Assembly constituencies of Hyderabad district and seven Assembly constituencies in Ranga Reddy district Election Commission of India Secretary Srivasthava said that all the EROs and AEROs must concentrate on Youth Registration and should find a place in the Electoral Rolls.
Mr Srivasthava directed the EROs and AEROs to serve notices and follow the specified rules while deleting the names from the Electoral Rolls, and further stated there is every need to improve EPIC performance. The EC Secretary, while interacting with the EROs and the AEROs said that discrepancies have to be sorted out in proper manner and they have to proceed according to the set time frame.
At present 90 per cent of the EPIC of is being done and the EROs and AEROs must work hard to achieve 100 per cent success, to get good name to the organization as well as to Election Commission of India, and also to conduct special drives to create awareness among electors to participate and to get their names enrolled in the Electoral Rolls. He revealed that the total number of Claims and Objections received is 85,941 through Drop Boxes, VFCs, designated locations, Special Campaign dates, Postal claims, Online applications from October 30, 2010 to December 5, 2010.
During the meeting held with the EROs on December 16, they have assured the ECI that they will be completing the work of pending verification/data entry of claims and objections by December 23at any cost. They also informed that they are arranging required man power and additional infrastructure for completing the said task before the time schedule fixed. Ranga Reddy Collector Dana Kishore, GHMC Special Commissioner Navin Mittal Additional Chief Electoral Officer Dakshina Murthy Additional Commissioner (Elections), GHMC Shiva Parwathi, EROs and AEROs and other senior officials of the GHMC attended the review meeting.
