Bedlam forces Mayor to pass 42 proposals without discussion Hyderabad, Dec 22 (INN): As many as 42 out of the proposals on the Agenda of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were declared as passed without discussion by Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy amidst scenes of turmoil in the civic body at the Fourth General Body meeting which continued for the second day on Wednesday. The turmoil was the result of insistence by the Telugu Desam Party Corporators on getting a resolution passed expressing solidarity with the fasting party president N Chandrababu Naidu and sympathy for the rain hit farmers who are reeling under financial crunch and resorting to suicide, and by the Bharatiya Janata Party which tried to push for the passing of a resolution seeking withdrawal of police cases against students filed during the height of the separate Telangana agitations.
Mayor Karthika Reddy refused to allow the resolutions to be tabled even as Congress and MIM Corporators insisted that discussions be taken up on the Agenda. The slogan shouting and its counter first forced the Mayor to adjourn the meeting for fifteen minutes. When the meeting resumed, the slogan shouting too resumed, forcing the Mayor to declare the passing of 42 proposals as approved. She also declared the meeting closed, amidst shouts of protests from all the Corporators.
Talking to media persons later, the Floor Leaders of all the four parties criticised the Mayor's decision and accused each other of playing political games, neglecting the civic affairs. The MIM regretted the decision of the Mayor and said that important subjects like discussion on the release of UCD funds, bypassing the Corporators, did not take place. The party also charge the GHMC of managing to only collect Rs 12 lakh from the Rs 100 crore due as tax from the 2,997 cellular phone towers which dot the city. Meanwhile, the BJP accused the Mayor of working on the directions of the MIM.
