Depressed widow poisons kids, kills self Hyderabad, Dec 31 (INN): Unable to come to terms with the death of her husband, a widow committed suicide after serving a soft drink laced with poison to her children under Nerdmet Police station limits late on Thursday. One of the three children died while the other two are said to be critical. According to Inspector Venkat Reddy, the woman was identified as Jyothi believed to be around 35 and a resident of Kakatiyanagar. She was the widow of Srinivas Rao, who was killed in a road accident about seven months ago.
Jyothi had taken up a job as a clerk in an institute for the deaf after the death of her husband to sustain her three children, Meghana (14), Varshita (12) and Nanda Kishore Kumar (9). She was depressed and is believed to have been unable to come to terms with her husband's death. Late on Thursday night, Jyothi took the extreme step of ending her life after giving her children a soft drink laced with an unidentified poison. She then hanged herself with a saree from a ceiling fan. The incident was noticed early on Friday morning by her family members who rushed them to Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad. The doctors declared Jyothi and Varshitha dead on arrival while Nanda Kishore and Meghana are stated to be in a critical condition. Police registered a case.
