CPI to oppose parking complex at Charminar Hyderabad, Jan 7(INN): Rajya Sabha MP Aziz Pasha on Friday assured shopkeepers around the Charminar bus stop and the hawkers who set up shop near the place that he would make all possible efforts to stop the construction of a multi-level parking complex in place of the defunct bus stop. Talking to media persons, the Communist Party of India MP said the construction of parking complex would hit the businesses of shopowners and throw them on the streets.
Mr Aziz Pasha revealed that the government has proposed to construct the parking complex in the place of Charminar Bus stop so that vehicles could be parked there since they would not be allowed to proceed towards the historic monument due to implementation of the Charminar Pedestrianisation project.
He added that if the parking complex comes up near 100 metres away from the Charminar, it would damage the historical monument due to the vibrations and the noxious gases released by vehicles. Mr Aziz Pasha suggested that the government construct a parking complex at Old Maternity Hospital, Petla Burj of the erstwhile Pension Office near the Chowmohalla palace instead. On the occasion, about 150 activists from CPM joined the CPI.
