ABVP's 'Chalo OU' attempt thwarted, lathicharged activists arrested Hyderabad, Jan 11 (INN): The police on Tuesday foiled the attempts of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad members to enter Osmania University campus, condemning the police action on students last Thursday and arrested them and shifted to Faluknama police station. Following the `Chalo OU' call given by its National level leaders, the ABVP activists, raising slogans against the state government and Home Minister K Sabitha Indra Reddy, tried to enter Osmania University campus from the three gates simultaneously. They were demanding that the government withdraw the Central Paramilitary Forces from Telangana region.
However, the police foiled the attempts of ABVP activists and arrested them at Shivam Road itself. The ABVP activists entered into heated arguments with police over the restrictions imposed on movement of students in the campus. Sensing trouble, the police resorted to lathicharge and took them into custody. The police have shifted the activists to Falaknuma police station. Following the incident, the police tightened security at all three gates and deployed additional forces. Tension prevailed in the area for some time after the lathicharge.
