MIM seeks Rs 16 Cr for scholarships to minority students Hyderabad, Jan 12 (INN): The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, consisting of seven MLAs, appealed to the state government to sanction the matching grant of Rs 16 crore towards scholarships to the students from the Minority communities immediately. Stating that the Central government had granted Rs 60 crore for scholarships to the minorities' students, MIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi asked Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to release the matching grant of Rs 16 crore at the earliest.
Whereas the grants for SC/ST and BC Students' scholarships were cleared by the government, the grants of the minorities were yet to be decided, he pointed out. Speaking to media persons at the Secretariat on Wednesday, Mr Owaisi said that he had given a representation to the Chief Minister and requested him to take a decision on priority.
Price rise also figured in his appeal to the government as the commoner found it difficult to meet both ends meet. While asking Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to visit the old city for collecting a firsthand account of certain issues, Mr Owaisi asked the Chief Minister to retain in the old city itself the Ayurvedic Hospital which is now housed in the Unani Hospital opposite the historic Charminar.
He pointed out that the then Dr Marri Channa Reddy government desired that the Ayurvedic Hospital be shifted to Sanathnagar where a new building is now constructed. The shifting of the said hospital will put to inconvenience lot of patients in the old city and hence the MIM leader's appeal to the Chief Minister. Similarly, Mr Owaisi asked the Chief Minister to visit City College and order for remodelling it as the college produced many a sportsmen in the past.
The MIM leader also he wanted protection of old manuscripts kept in a building near Osmania University, the Daira-tul-Maarif. The cases following the Mecca Masjid blast be lifted immediately, Mr Owaisi said and added that a Mosque in Suryapet was dismantled in the name of road widening and the Chief Minister was asked to arrange repairs to it. The MIM leader also appealed to Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy to implement the Prime Minister's 15-point programme for Minorities.
