Parking woes in CPP implementation, GHMC to build lots Hyderabad, Jan 22 (INN): Parking woes around the historic Charminar and their possible solutions came to the fore on Saturday, when the high-level visiting team directed the officials to break open locks and occupy about 10,000 square feet of parking space belonging to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The team, led by Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy and comprising of Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain, GHMC Commissioner Sameer Sharma and MIM MLAs Akbaruddin Owaisi, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, Ahmed Pasha Quadri and Ahmed Balala, MIM Legislators and GHMC officials, ordered the locks of the parking lot in the SYJ Complex at Pathergatti be broken open and the space thrown open for public use.
The GHMC owns the parking lot and it had been encroached upon by various persons over a period of time. Pointing out that the parking of vehicles was a major problem in the development of the old city, MIM Floor Leader in the Assembly Akbaruddin Owaisi demanded that part of the old maternity hospital at Nayapul, which has been allotted to the High Court, be used to build a parking complex.
He also demanded that the GHMC ensures that the parking space in the SYJ complex be protected from encroachers. Mr Owaisi also suggested that the old pension payment office at Moti Galli and the Charminar Bus Stop at Panch Mohalla be converted into parking lots.
The MIM MLA also said that a parking lot to the east of Charminar, at the Kotla Alijah Road be built. Taking note of Mr Owaisi's suggestion, GHMC Commissioner Sameer Sharma said that a plot of land behind the Telephone Exchange could be used to build a parking lot.
