CPI pickets Hyd, RR Collectorates on T-issue Hyderabad, Jan 24 (INN): Demanding introduction of Telangana Bill in the Budget Session of Parliament, activists of the Communist Party of India on Monday picketed Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district Collectorates. Raising slogans against the Centre for resorting to delaying tactics after the submission of Justice B N Srikrishna Committee Report, the CPI members demanded bifurcation of the State into Telangana and Seemandhra as per existing boundaries with Hyderabad as the capital of Telangana and Seemandhra to have a new capital based on the fifth option given by the Panel.
The activists, under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP Aziz Pasha staged a demonstration and demanded that the ruling party table the Telangana Bill in Parliament. Mr Aziz Pasha urged the Centre to come out with clear stand on the separate statehood issue and added that the Union Government should not link the state formation issue with the recommendations given by the Justice B N Srikrishna Committee in its Report.
The CPI leader also took strong exception to the recent verdict of Krishna Disputes Waters Tirbunal and termed the judgment as `unfair'. He said the judgment will put Andhra Pradesh farmers in doldrums and turn the Krishna Delta into a desert soon. Mr Aziz Pasha asked the state government to file a review petition before the Tribunal after consulting all-party leaders and irrigation experts to protect the interests of farmers.
He also expressed serious concern over the government failure on checking rising prices of essential commodities and asked it to take proper measures. Meanwhile, reports of the CPI cadre intensifying their protests are coming in from across the Telangana region. The CPI activists staged dharnas and rasta rokos across the state.
