Cherlapally jail riot: kin claim police version untrue Hyderabad, Feb 1 (INN): Refuting reports that any jail officials were injured during the prison riot which took place at Cherlapally Jail on Monday, relatives of many of the accused and convicted prisoners lodged there said that the facts are contrary to the ones claimed by the police.
Talking to media persons after a special prayer meeting organized by Maulana Naseeruddin at Saidabad Eidgah, the relatives of some of the prisoners, accused of committing crimes against the state, defended them by saying that the jail officials had locked them and had instead tortured the prisoners. They accused the jail authorities of covering up the incident by claiming that there was a prison riot in the high security Papagni block of the jail.
Terror operator Viqar Ahmed's sister Fatima said that the real story behind the so-called prison riot may never be told, since the Central and state government pats police personnel for harassing Muslim youth and foisting a numbers of cases on them to hide their failure in catching the real culprits.
Fatima added that the police had picked up numerous Muslim youths for the Mecca Masjid blast and had tortured them for days and months. The police version was proven wrong only after Swami Aseemanand confessed to having had a hand in the blast, she pointed out. She further said that, 'saffron terrorism has grown in the lap of RSS, but the police do not take stept to restrict that outfits and its activities.'
Mother of Shaik Abdul Khaja, who is lodged in the jail claimed that her son has been the victim of police torture since the past five years. Wife of another prisoner Sayeed told reporters that that 9 month ago, her husband was picked up for his alleged involvement in the Task Force office bombing case and shifted to Warangal and then to Cherlapally Jail. She also alleged torture of her husband. She said that when she and other relatives of the accused tried to contact the jail authorities, the authorities refused to provide details about those injured.
