Turkish investors willing but weary of AP Hyderabad, Feb 8 (INN): After much fanfare the AP delegation that visited Turkey from February 3 to 6, and intense attempts by State Minister P Sankar Rao making a presentation of resources, infrastructure etc, to the Turkish Chamber of Commerce, TCC, did not evoke any immediate response like investing in the state.
The Minister's presentation was reinforced by Union Minister of State for Industries Aditya Scindia also appears to have not moved the Turkish entrepreneurs, who were said to be specialised in engineering products. However the Minister expressed confidence that the TCC would make forays here and would be provided the land, infrastructure, power, water among others when they come.
The Minister found that there was a good scope for textiles and hoped that Turkey would envisage investments in that field, Dr Sankar Rao told media persons at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The Foreign Economic Relations Board of Turkey, DEIK, assured mobilisation of more investments and sourcing them into the state.
Dr Sankar Rao revealed that industries like Arcelik(home appliances), Ahmet Burak Dagliogli (Fertiliser) and power units, textile industry (Koteks) and heavy industries (Cimtas), expressed their eagerness to invest in AP. Besides 400 business inquiries came from Turkish houses for investing in AP. AP was the only state from India which set up a stall in Turkey show with 22 entrepreneurs from the state attending the show who were hopeful of enhancing their business across South East Asia
and African markets.
Stating that Turkey acted as a bridge between the Asia and Europe, Dr Shankar Rao said that the just concluded show facilitated promotion of Indian products abroad. In all, over 44,000 visitors from Turkey and other countries like Albania, Georgia, Iran, Jordan, UAE, Greece, Kuwait among others participated in the exhibition.
