Fire ravages market yard, loss put at Rs 20 lakh
Tirupati, Feb 10 (INN): A major fire ravaged farm produce and shops at a market yard on Tiruchanur road in Chittoor district on Thursday, destroying property worth lakhs of rupees. According to reports, the fire swept through 15 shops, leaving farmers in distress after destroying their farm produce.
Initial inquiries suggest that the fire may have been triggered off by a short-circuit. There were no reports of any human casualties. According to sources in the fire department, property worth Rs 20 lakh was destroyed in the fire. This figure is however believed to be conservative and is expected to be on revised upwards. Fire tenders from Tirupati were rushed to the market yard to help put down the blaze.
