Govt blinks, releases compensation for scribes Hyderabad, Feb 14 (INN): It was the sound of silence which finally made the state government buckle down and release Rs 7.94 lakh as ex-gratia for the journalists whose expensive equipment had been damaged due to police excesses during the separate Telangana agitation at the Osmania University campus last year.
The silent protest by the scribes, under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working journalists had held in the chambers of the Information and Broadcasting Commissioner C Partha Sarthy was called off after more than six hours on getting the news that the government had issued a GO No 448 releasing the ex-gratia.
The GO was issued as a Budget Release order for Rs 7.94 lakh as additional funds from the head of account under non-plan towards payment to media persons. The GO was handed over to Indian Journalist Union Secretary General K Srinivas Reddy by I and PR director Subhas Goud and Joint Director D Srinivas. In addition to this, the new Accreditation Committee is expected to be constituted in the next couple of days.
