OU students joy ride in city RTC buses Hyderabad, February 17: Telangana students had a free-ride in the city today even as several educational institutions had to shut down with teachers not attending to work in support of the non-cooperation movement call given by the TJAC demanding introduction of T Bill in the Parliament. More than 75 students of Osmania University JAC 'toured' the city by changing 10 RTC buses and travelling without tickets.
They started their journey from Tarnaka and travelled on the Habsiguda-Uppal-Nagole-LB nagar-Kothapet-Dilsukhnagar-Koti-Secunderabad-Ram Nagar route. They raised 'Jai Telangana' slogans when asked to buy tickets and even asked fellow passengers not to purchase tickets. OUJAC students had lunch at a restaurant reportedly owned by a non-Telanganite at Vidyanagar and left the place without paying the bill.
Similar 'ticketless journeys' were taken up by the students of Secunderabad PG College to Patancheru and by Nizam college students to Kukatpally and back. 'We will intensify our agitation, if the government tries to bring pressure on the employees by invoking Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA),' OUJAC spokesperson P Kailash said.
Protests by advocates
Barring the High Court, Telangana advocates across the region boycotted courts today and travelled in RTC buses ticketless as part of the non-cooperation movement. The Telangana advocates JAC also gave a 'Chalo Raj Bhavan' call on February 21 demanding recall of governor ESL Narasimhan and introduction of separate T Bill in the Parliament.
