Fake CBI officer held for extortion bid
Hyderabad, Feb 20 (INN): Asifnagar Police late on Saturday arrested a man accused of posing as Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer in an attempt to extort money from traders. According to Inspector Syed Jahangir, the accused, MA Jabbar (63) was arrested at Gudimalkapur late on Saturday night after the owner of a business establishment filed a complaint against him. Jabbar is a resident of Hydershaha Kote in Rajendranagar. He originally hails from Vijayawada.
Mohammed Farooq in his complaint said that Jabbar had approached him and demanded that he produce evidence that he had paid his Income Tax. After Farooq produced the receipts of the returns he had filed, Jabbar said that they were faulty and warned him that he would be penalized heavily. Farooq claims that Jabbar demanded Rs two lakh as bribe to hush up the matter.
His suspicion aroused, Farooq asked him to wait till he could arrange the money and informed the Asifnagar police on phone. The police rushed to the spot and nabbed Jabbar. 'When demanded to produce proof of identity, Jabbar produced an ID card which was found to be forged,' Inspector Jahangir said.
Interrogation made Jabbar reveal that he had been earlier caught when he attempted a similar bid in Gulbarga in Karnataka. The forged ID card was seized and Jabbar arrested. Police registered cases under sections 419, 420, 468, 469 and 506 IPC against Jabbar. Jabbar will be produced before the Court on Monday.
