Land grabbers encroaching Musi Hyderabad, Feb 27 (INN): Azampura Division Corporator Amjedullah Khan on Sunday said that he would raise the issue of 'systematic' encroachments on the River Musi at Chaderghat Causeway Bridge before the concerned authorities.
Speaking to people of Vinayak Veedhi, Kamal Nagar and Moosa Nagar which are located on the banks of the River during his inspection tour, Mr Amjedullah Khan said that the attempts to encroach on the river by land grabbers were thus far unchecked since the authorities were turning a blind eye.
He said that the land grabbers were dumping debris from dismantled buildings on the river bed and then selling this filled up lands at about Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000 per square yard. The local people told the Corporator that the land grabbers bring the debris in lorries at night time and dump it on the Musi riverbed. They said that each day, hundreds of lorries make their way to the sites.
The people also expressed apprehension that if the blocking of the water flow continues, their houses will be in great danger of being inundated when the river is in spate in monsoon season. They expressed fears that their localities will be completely submerged if water from the reservoirs upstream is released.
Responding to their apprehensions, Mr Amjedullah Khan assured them that he would represent the matter to the GHMC Commissioner, the Hyderabad Collector and the Commissioner of Police.
