Blind student's bid to storm Assembly foiled Hyderabad, Feb 28 (INN): Seeking the introduction of separate statehood bill in Parliament, a group of blind students expressing solidarity with the Telangana political Joint Action Committee were arrested when their made a bid to storm the State Assembly.
The visually-challenged students turned up at the first tier of the three-tier security ring around the Assembly and demanded that they be allowed to proceed further to register their protests. However, the police stopped them and then followed heated arguments between them and the police.
The students declared that if they were not allowed to go further, they would stage sit in demonstrations on the road. The police warned the protestors that they would be breaching the norms in force which ban any protest or rallies in the vicinity of Assembly.
However, the students alleged that the police of behaving in a highhanded manner. They also accused the police of using filthy and abusive language against them. The students demanded that Saifabad Police Inspector Umendar, who allegedly used filthy language against them, to apologise unconditionally.
The agitated students then staged their sit-in demonstrations outside the Police Control Room bringing the traffic to halt for nearly half an hour. The police tried to coax the protestors to call off their stir, but they were unrelenting. The blind students were subsequently arrested and taken to the Nampally Police station.
Elsewhere, students of the City College were caned by the police when they took out an 'Arti Rally' procession outside the College demanding the formation of separate state. Raising slogans against the government, the students tried to on despite being prevented by the police leading to jolting and pushing. As result the police restored to lathi charge to disburse them. However no one was arrested or injured in the incident.
