Fire ravages through Borabanda vegetable market Hyderabad, March 6 (INN): Property worth lakhs of rupees was damaged in a fire mishap that took place in the morning hours at SRT Nagar vegetable market in Borabanda in the city. According to fire department sources, nearly 100 shops and 150 pushcarts, besides an auto-rickshaw were reduced to ashes in the blaze.
Preliminary estimates by the fire department personnel have put the loss at Rs 50 lakh. This can see a manifold increase, the fire department officials stated and added that the true extent of loss can be correctly determined after taking the goods which were stored in the shops into account.
Officials said that being Sunday, the shops were shut and hence correct estimation of the losses would be made later. According to sources, the fire mishap that might have been caused due to short-circuit which sparked off the fire in one shop in the wee hours.
The fire soon spread to other shops and reduced them to ashes. Three fire tenders from Sanathnagar were pressed into service to put off the flames. The blaze was brought under control after a struggle of more than two hours. However, no human casualties were reported in the mishap.
