Special drive to curb menace by eunuchs on trains Hyderabad, March 7 (INN): The South Central Railways on Monday revealed that as many as 201 transgenders, generally referred to as eunuchs, were arrested and prosecuted under the Railways Act in February.
In a statement, the SCR said that it took up a drive against the transgenders after getting complaints frequently from passengers of long distance trains about the nuisance and discomfort caused by them in day trains. The Security Department of the SCR organized a drive against the transgenders in the trains to root out the menace.
The statement said that during the drives carried out in February, 2011, 201 transgenders were arrested and prosecuted under the Railways Act. For this purpose, special squads under an Inspector (Railway Protection Force) were formed in all divisions of the SCR.
The special squads carried out checks in all the trains, especially the day time trains in the Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Guntur, Guntakal, Vijayawada and Nanded divisions as part of the special drive. The drives are continuing, SCR authorities pointed out.
