Three charred to death as lorries collide Nalgonda, March 8 (INN): Three persons were charred to death when a lorry laded with chemicals collided head on with sand-laden lorry near Uppalapadu in Kethepally mandal in Nalgonda district on Tuesday.
According to Sub-Inspector Srinivasa Reddy of the Kethepally police station, three persons were charred to death when the chemicals in one lorry exploded due to the collision. The resultant fire engulfed both the lorries within minutes, leaving no chance of the occupants to escape from the raging flames. The two lorries were reduced to ashes within a very short time, Mr Srinivasa Reddy revealed.
The mishap occurred when the chemical lorry, heading towards Tanuku in West Godavari from Mumbai collided with the sand-laden lorry which was heading towards Hyderabad from Vijayawada. Two persons, travelling in the lorry loaded with chemicals and the driver of the sand-laden lorry were charred to death on the spot.
The occupants of the lorry carrying the chemicals have been identified as Shaik Ameer (21), Shaik Moinuddin (50). The identity of the driver of the sand-laden lorry was yet to be ascertained. The police pressed fire tenders to douse the flames.
Traffic on the busy National Highway No 9, which connects Mumbai and Vijayawada, was disrupted for more than one-and-half-hours. The police had a tough time bringing the traffic flow back to normal.
