Betting rackets busted, two bookies held Hyderabad, March 15 (INN): Sleuths of Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills police stations on Tuesday nabbed two cricket bookies separately who were accepting bets on cricket matches. Acting on a tip-off, the police apprehended Praveen Kumar Raju and K Suri Babu and seized Rs 99,500 in cash, two colour TVs, two laptops and seventeen mobile phones recovered from their possession.
Praveen Kumar Raju was arrested when he was accepting cricket bettings by taking a room on rent at Gayatri Hills and using the premises as gaming house. During the raid, the police seized Rs 59,000, one colour TV, one Laptop and ten mobile phones from his possession.
Praveen Kumar is a native of Bhimavaram, W Godavari district and a habitual offender involved in cricket betting. Since the last two IPL seasons he had been organising cricket betting by having a community of his own punters.
In a separate raid, the Banjara Hills police, tipped off by the Jubilee Hills police nabbed another bookie by name Kommireddy Suri Babu when he was accepting cricket betting by taking a room on rent at Guru Brahma Nagar, Road No 10, Banjara Hills. The police seized Rs 40,500, one colour TV, one Laptop and seven mobile phones from his possession.
