Power problems get acute in Red Hills Hyderabad, March 18 (INN): Though it is no secret that the state is facing a shortfall of power, this knowledge is of little consolation to the residents of Red Hills and Nampally.
They are the ones faced with such erratic supply of power that they assume that they have been singularly targeted. While the entire opposition is leveling attack after attack on the ruling party in the Assembly over its failure to take steps that the citizens are put to the least possible inconvenience, the residents of Red Hills say that compared to any part of the state, their locality has been bearing the brunt of power cuts.
The power cuts, says Syed Shamsuddin a resident, are imposed at the worst possible times, during the day or in the night.
Shamsuddin claims that if the power supply goes off at around midnight, it is resumed only after daybreak, sometimes lasting as much as 6 to 7 hours. The situation during the day is not too different either.
'We have been making complaints, to the staff at the local substation but to no avail,' says he. Shamsuddin adds that all the residents are given are assurances and not power.
On an average, the power cuts cumulatively come around to three hours each day. This is despite the fact that the government has clearly said that only industrial areas would see two-hour scheduled power cuts.
Apart from the unscheduled power cuts during the nights, which are the most disturbing for the residents, each day the cuts are spread from 10.30 AM to Noon and from 3.30 PM to 5 PM. The condition during the nights is even worse as the cuts are of a longer duration and frequently unscheduled.
'Apart from this, long maintenance cuts are also imposed without prior intimation. Sometimes, we face as much as a five-hour power cut,' said another resident.
'We are being forced to use generators to keep our businesses going. Last month, we faced a lot of complaints from our customers since we did not have a generator then,' said a hotel owner.
