NRIs campaigning to Save India From Corruption New Jersey, March 20, 2011: Save India From Corruption (SIFC), an NRI based organization is working to bring awareness about the alarming corruption situation in India through activities in US as well as in India. In US, SIFC is currently working closely with efforts of Dandi March-II, young NRIs from People for Lok Satta who are doing 240 mile walk emulating Mahatma Gandhi famous Dandi March. In India, SIFC is working closely with leading experts/activists to hold conferences.
One such conference with leading international and national experts will be held in New Delhi on April 1st and 2nd at the Vivekananda International Center. This will be attended by Baba Ramadev, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, Ram Jethmalini, retired Chief Justice Venkatachala, Arvind Kejriwal, Govindacharya and other luminaries from India and Eurodad, World Bank Governance, Tax Justice Network, UNOCD from international bodies.
SIFC is also planning to organize another conference in June 2011 to bring activists fighting corruption issues from all over India to Hyderabad in cooperation with Lead India 2020 and other organizations.
As part of awareness program, SIFC has held awareness and fund raising programs on Jan 9th and March 19th in New Jersey and Jan 23rd at Dallas. A presentation to create awareness is available on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giAqjxvyRLw which received more than 125,000 hits in 5 weeks.
TV Asia and other NRI media organizations are coming forward to work closely with SIFC to conduct regular programs to bring awareness to NRI community and encourage NRI's to participate in making a difference to their motherland.
In a statement Satya Dosapati, one of the organizers of SIFC program along with Hari Eppanapally, Global Youth Coordinator for Lead India 2020 Organization and Satya Nemana said, "We are making fervent appeal to NRI community leaders to channel their energies for this cause either by joining us or in their own capacity in their respective organizations. Mahatma Gandhi was an NRI and throughout India's history NRIs made a significant difference to our motherland which gave us our culture, our education and most importantly our values that is helping us thrive and flourish in a different land. He said that there has been no other time since India's independence as it is now for Indians across the world to come together to protect our country and in this effort NRIs can make a difference, in fact a significant difference.
He said NRI's spend enormous resources in mega events every summer in US and requested that NRI's to be cognizant of survival situation in India and channel some of those resources and energies to bring awareness and structural changes in India to eliminate corruption at all levels of the society. One example of NRI activities could be to hold major conferences around US and other parts of the world outside India with the leading luminaries from India fighting a valiant battle against corruption such as Baba Ramadev, Dr. Swamy, Arvind Kejriwal, Anna Hazare, Kiran Bedi and others.
The well received SIFC presentation focused on corruption in high places, in light of the recent 40 billion dollar 2G scam and 13 billion dollar Common Wealth Game scam. Quoting a newspaper article it explains what is happening in India is not corruption, but plundering of India by politicians that is creating existential threat to the nation.
It showed how there is an estimated 1.4 trillion dollars stashed away in foreign havens while 80% India is poor with less than 2$ per day, every second child in India is malnourished, nearly 200,000 farmers committed suicide since 1997, grinding inflation is forcing mothers to send a child to school or to work, rising Maoist insurgency has affected one third of India's districts, India facing a threatening situation both internally and externally and that India is not poor by choice but by design of the nefarious and unscrupulous forces. It showed a slide of all the scams since independence with estimated loot of 73 lakh crores with politicians, bureaucrats taking cut in every effort, from military procurement to the large scale loot of mineral wealth that belongs to all Indians.
The event well attended by the NRI community resolved with a call for people to come together beyond regions, religions and other divisive factors to bring in laws with teeth to stop the corruption, bring the looted wealth back and make India a prosperous country.
SIFC urges all NRIs to participate in Dandi March-II events listed at: http://DandiMarch2.org Those who interested in attending Delhi conference on April 1st and 2nd and for additional information contact Satya Dosapati or Hari Eppanapally at contact@SaveIndiaFromCorruption.org and check http://www.SaveIndiaFromCorruption.org
