RoB at Kukatpally hits roadblock Hyderabad: The road overbridge (ROB) from Hi-tec City station to Kukatpally is unlikely to be completed by year-end. The RoB was to be completed and thrown open to public by May.
The foundation stone for the RoB was laid by former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy in 2006 and was to be completed by 2008 but till date, it is still to be completed. The RoB will ease congestion on the busy stretch and reduce the distance between the Old Bombay highway and New Bombay highway.
Metropolitan commissioner Rajeshwar Tiwari who inspected the RoB in January, directed concerned authorities complete the road portion by March and the railway portion by May, so it could be opened by May. But works could not proceed further due to lack of funds.
The actual cost was to be about `24 crore and the HMDA has already spent over `20 crore. The cost has escalated further due to increase in prices of steel, cement and other construction material. HMDA requires another `20 crore to complete the super structure portion. It is learnt the contractor to whom the work was entrusted is reluctant to complete the project until he gets the full amount for the work.
HMDA officials said to complete the super structure on the railway portion and 30 m stretch on both sides, a minimum 6 to 8 months are required. The 910 m long and 21.5 m wide four-lane divided carriageway, starts from the KPHB Phase-IV, Kukatpally to Cyber Towers and lands near Hi-tec City station.
