SCR shifts gears to handle summer rush Hyderabad, March 25 (INN): The South Central Railway, in tune with the Action Plan laid by its Railway Board, will take various measures to handle the extra rush of passenger traffic during the ensuing Summer season.
Amongst the steps being taken, are the introduction of Summer Special trains which would be run between various major destinations till June 2011 to handle the extra rush of passenger traffic.
The SCR is also making efforts to ensure that adequate number of reservation counters function during the working hours and additional counters will also be opened wherever it is necessary.
Apart from this, concerted attempts are being made to curb the activities of touts and anti-social elements by deputing Vigilance Inspectors, Commercial Inspectors and Railway Protection Force / Police Personnel to maintain surveillance and nab the offenders.
Besides this, extensive special checks will be organized by squads of Commercial Officers and Ticket Checking staff to detect irregular and fraudulent travelling in trains.
The SCR has said that passenger amenities including provision of adequate drinking water facility, proper upkeep of waiting halls/rooms, lighting, etc, will be ensured to the required extent. In addition to this, cleanliness at stations and on trains will also be maintained by deployment of required number of staff.
The SCR said that rail users can plan their journeys in advance and utilize the Summer Special trains which are already announced for their travel.
Apart from this, the SCR on Friday said that it has commissioned a new Computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRS) Counter at the Andhra Pradesh Secretariat Premises, Hyderabad.
The PRS Counter will help rail users make their reservations by any train from any station to any other station on the Indian Railways network, thereby enhancing the reservation facility available in the city further more.
