Kalabarathi to celebrate Ugadi in NJ on 10th Edison, NJ: Kalabarathi, a community-based group that was formed primarily to provide a forum for people with interest or roots in Indian culture, is celebrating Telugu New Year Ugadi on April 10th. The celebrations are a collectively hosted family event, said the organisors in a press note. Event location is at Swaminarayan Mandir at 1667 Amwell Road, Somerset, New Jersey and it will start at 12 Noon with Pooja. Ugadi Pachadi distribution will be at 12:30 and 12:40 there will be Panchanga Sravanam, or Fortune Telling for the Telugu New Year. Lunch will be served at 1 PM and there will cultural events from 2 PM till 5 PM.
In 2003, Kalabarathi started its first community event by organizing Ganesha Chaturthi. Since then, Ganesha Chaturthi has been celebrated as a nine-day event and includes activities ranging from archana (pooja), bhajan, music, dance, and recitals. Kalabarathi says that its purpose is to offer the community an opportunity to come together and collectively celebrate festivals and social and cultural events that lead to additional efforts in social advocay and action.
Since the Ugadi program on April 10th is a collective event, the organisors requested a contribution of $20 from each family attending this event.
