Osmania doctor takes Rs 25k for post-mortem report Hyderabad: A forensic professor of Osmania Medical College who demanded money from a businessman to prepare his mother's post-mortem report before forwarding the same to police was caught on Monday by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sleuths.
The accused Dr D Jayaraj was demanding the money to prepare the post-mortem of a woman who died after undergoing a knee replacement surgery. Pushpalatha, aged around 56 years had undergone a knee surgery at the Apollo Hospitals in first week of March.
'A patient was not supposed to be given solid food within 24 hours of a surgery as she would be under the influence of anaesthesia. Hospital authorities allegedly gave solid food which the woman vomitted. She died after developing complications,'ACB central intelligence unit inspector Vijay Bhaskar said.
Pushpalatha's son, Ravindranathan Ramu, an overseas consultant from Nallakunta grew suspicious about his mother's death and registered a complaint with Banjara Hills police. The police registered a case (crime no 227/2011) under Section 174 (suspicious death) and sent the body for post-mortem to Osmania General Hospital.
Though a post-mortem was conducted by Jayaraj on March 9, he did not prepare the final report and sent the same to police. 'When Ramu approached Banjara Hills police, the latter told him they were yet to receive the post-mortem report to proceed further in the case. When Ramu contacted Jayaraj, he started demanding money,' the inspector said.
Jayaraj allegedly told Ramu that some hospital officials were in touch with him for preparing a report in the latter's favour and demanded Rs 25,000 from Ramu to prepare the report and forward it to police.
On a complaint by Ramu, ACB sleuths laid a trap at the Osmania Medical College in Koti on Monday. As per instructions of Jayaraj, the bribe amount was handed over to his driver at around 11.50 a.m when ACB sleuths caught the doctor red-handed. ACB sleuths also recovered the relevant file from Jayaraj. The professor, however, had not prepared the final report. The forensic professor and his driver would be arrested and produced before a special court for ACB cases in Hyderabad.
