Police catch 3 bookies on eve of India-Pak WC clash Hyderabad, March 29 (INN): Sleuths of Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills police on Tuesday nabbed three cricket bookies separately and seized Rs 1,04,000 in cash, colour TVs, two laptops, 22 mobile phones, a set top box with 10 phones from their possession.
The arrests took place after the Jubilee Hills police were tipped off that a cricket bookie Jammula Sivaji from Srikrishna residency, Srinagar colony was accepting cricket bettings by taking a room on rent at Gayathri Hills and using the premises as gaming house.
The police raided the premises and nabbed him, while also seizing Rs 44,000 in cash, one colour TV, laptop, 13 mobile phones, one calculator from his possession.
Sivaji is native of Vijaywada and a habitual offender involved in cricket bettings, the police said. Since the past year, he had been organising cricket bettings by having a community of his own punters.
On the tip off from the bookie nabbed by Jubilee Hills police, Banjara Hills police nabbed another bookie named B Giridhar Reddy from Mount View apartment, Ganapathi complex when he was accepting cricket bettings by taking the flat on rent and using the premises as Gaming house.
The police also seized Rs 30,000 in cash, one laptop, set of line box with 10 mobile phones, 2 calculators, 5 mobile phones from his possession.
On the clues from the above bookies Banjara Hills police nabbed another bookie named P Suri from Mount view apartment, Ganapathi complex, who is co-partner of Giridhar Reddy and accepting betting on his own from the other room in the same flat at Ganapathi complex and using the premises as Gaming house. The police seized Rs 30,000 in cash, 4 Reliance cellphones and one calculator from his possession.
